Usually when I meet folks and I tell them I am a programmer, the first question they ask is, "What language do you code in?" I try to explain that DewEye doesn't work that way. We specialize in the aviation, government, financial and software industries / domains but not really in any specific languages.
We honestly try to create the right solution for the need. If I had to answer languages, I would have to say that .Net, SQL Server, ORACLE, HTML and Flash are our core languages and tools. Tools is certainly a better word, because that is exactly how we use those products.
If a client has an existing database in say ORACLE, why would we want to force them to switch to SQL Server just because we are using .Net on the front end? Or just because we like Crystal Reports, why would we be unwilling to help create reports in something like Access when our client is already familiar with and highly invested in MS Office Products.
I'm not even opposed to OS tools like PHP / MySQL. In fact, we have developed several applications using those. I believe it is a credit to my company DewEye when I can honestly look a client in the face and say that we are experts in programming and we intimately KNOW many languages and will deliver the best solution for the opportunity.
I believe only good coders work like this. I have truly witnessed many times when my guys have outperformed other coders in the language that the other coder specializes in and I attribute our success to our overall programming skills and domain knowledge.
Skills crush experience any day in this world and I would much rather have a good coder than a good C# guy.
