I try to explain that DewEye doesn't work that way. We specialize in the aviation, government, financial and software industries / domains but not really in any specific languages.

We honestly try to create the right solution for the need. If I had to answer languages, I would have to say that .Net, SQL Server, ORACLE, HTML and Flash are our core languages and tools. Tools is certainly a better word, because that is exactly how we use those products.

If a client has an existing database in say ORACLE, why would we want to force them to switch to SQL Server just because we are using .Net on the front end? Or just because we like Crystal Reports, why would we be unwilling to help create reports in something like Access when our client is already familiar with and highly invested in MS Office Products.

I'm not even opposed to OS tools like PHP / MySQL. In fact, we have developed several applications using those. I believe it is a credit to my company DewEye when I can honestly look a client in the face and say that we are experts in programming and we intimately KNOW many languages and will deliver the best solution for the opportunity.

I believe only good coders work like this. I have truly witnessed many times when my guys have outperformed other coders in the language that the other coder specializes in and I attribute our success to our overall programming skills and domain knowledge.

Skills crush experience any day in this world and I would much rather have a good coder than a good C# guy.

Just my $0.02 worth...

Randy Fair
CEO and Consultant
DewEye Consulting, Inc.

deweye | tele: 1.719.210.7650 | fax: 1.719.785.5733 | e-mail: rfair@deweye.com | web: www.deweye.com |

Faith in the Workplace

It started out as a normal day in my life; take one of my children to an appointment, pack my laptop in my backpack, load my mountain bike up in the truck and head towards a nearby favorite workplace.

I parked the truck and pedaled a few miles more with my laptop on my back to a groovy little coffee shop called "Crowfoot Coffee" to get a 1/2 caf Soy latte. It was gorgeous outside, so I took a seat on the porch. Everything was cool, but I noticed that my laptop needed charging so I packed it back up and headed back in side to find some "juice" for my laptop. Then it happened...

The 2nd bam was about as painful as the 1st as I watched my Gateway Tablet bounce into the grass from the concrete porch. All at once in about 1/2 a second, I realized that I should have checked ALL the zippers, when the last time I backed up was, how much this was going to cost me, and how far I would have to ride back to my truck with a piece of junk in my backpack.

No real ugly physical damage, but after plugging it in, there were no lights, no fan, nada. OK for most folks this would be a bummer, but for me, this is one of those moments when my wife makes sure all the kids, animals, herself, and everything else is not within audible distance.

My Spiritual journey this week has been one of figuring out how to deal with life from a Spirit filled perspective instead of from my normal humanly flesh self. Now its pop quiz time. Believe it or not, no curse words, no shouting, and I didn't even cry.

I sat down and started to pray and read my Bible. I tried to find all the verses where God took care of physical stuff like making sure the Israelits shoes never wore out or when Elisha made the axe float in water. I needed one of these cool physical miracles. I prayed and waited and tested the laptop again. Still nada.

A fellow named Daniel came by and asked what I was doing, and as usual, I spilled my guts. He was also a man of faith and sat and talked with me a few minutes and eventually prayed for my laptop.

I left the coffee shop feeling encouraged but with a non-working tool in my backpack. I decided to take it to Dave, a friend of mine who happens to own a PC repair shop and happens to be a client as well -http://www.inavid.com/.

As soon as Dave plugged it in, voila! All lights, disk spinning, and now here I am a few hours later using it to type this blog as a credit to God for bailing me out once again in such a cool physical way.

Some balk at faith in the workplace, specifically in my industry where we rely so heavily on intellect and resources. But me, I believe that without my faith, I am nothing and with it, I can track down and defeat a whole army that comes against me.

What a blessing that we have such a great God and that we live in such a cool country that we can worship Him freely. Thanks to the men and women who have and are physically fighting for those freedoms, and thanks to those who fight on their knees to keep faith alive in this dark world! Let's you and I strive to make it less dark...

Randy Fair
CEO DewEye Consulting, Inc.

Shout Outs

From time to time, we get various thank yous and 'ataboys' from our clients. Well it's a sordid tale complete with foreign espionage and double entendres...

Basically, a few friends of mine went to see the movie Austin Powers. Evidently, because I have never personally seen it, the main spy character says on a couple of occasions in a very overly done British accent, "Do I make you Randy?"

Because I go by the name of Randy, the guys started calling me "Do I." Several spellings later, DewEye became my programming moniker (AKA hacker name) and eventually I used it for our company.

I still dig the name and although it has a somewhat questionable past, I believe it has become a trademark of off the hook coders with unquestionable skills and integrity.

Randy Fair
CEO DewEye Consulting, Inc.

Reeled of Dreams

DewEye just helped the owner's of inAvid.com launch their dreams of becoming the online video training company. To accommodate some of our current growth we decided to hire from within, really within. Paul Fair III, Matthew Fair and Christian Fair are all three sons of our CEO and founder Randy Fair and have recently become the newest members of the DewEye family as well.

Our newest DewEye members have all been "groomed" for their father's company, but are now undergoing intensive training and hazing to become part of the DewEye Consulting company.

Matthew and Christian have displayed sincere interest and aptitude for web application development and will be working alongside current DewEye consultants to learn the ropes. Paul has a more detailed communicative personality and has become Randy Fair's personal assistant and accountant. Paul will also be handling some documentation and quality assurance portions of our larger projects.

Please join us in welcoming and harassing these three young men to our DewEye family. We are confident that they will continue DewEye's legacy of on-time, on-budget, and over delivering computer consulting work to our very valued clients. (We would have to say that anyway! They are the boss' sons!)
